The Affordable Care Act plays a fundamental role in guaranteeing all Americans access to quality healthcare. The act has bridged the gap of health disparities and relieved the government and citizens of massive financial costs. According to literature, the Affordable Care Act’s implementation reduced the rate of uninsured patients by 43% in 2015. The reform has also boosted the financial security of people accessing Medicaid coverage by reducing debts and increased access to health care for the underinsured by introducing substitute payment systems like accountable care organizations and bundled payments (Obama, 2016). Therefore, the policy protects people’s health, but it also saves them financially, making it possible to acquire essential needs. According to Mason et al. (2016), nurses have a social responsibility for shaping the future of quality health care. Building a close relationship with patients is a remarkable effort bound to bring health care changes since nursing is humanistic. Nurses dictate the services patients receive through appropriate care, diagnosis, and provision of medication direction.

It is interesting how you have acknowledged the US healthcare system’s history and how the Affordable Care Act has triggered significant changes. The policy has helped eliminate health disparities by increasing medical coverage to vulnerable societies, improving quality, and cutting medical costs. However, there are still some gaps due to the complexity of the health system structure. People may be limited in accessing health services due to financial disabilities or their geographical locations. Proper integration of primary care and public health can play a significant role in eliminating the small problem in healthcare delivery. The integration of functions helps save time, lower costs, and deliver care to populations that may be disadvantaged (AAFP, 2020). Nurses can join community programs that aim to enhance quality medical services to the unprivileged. Additionally, nurses can pursue doctoral programs to take a leadership role in providing services by setting up their clinics.
